Taking in some lobster and salmon fishing, this series also explores some of the local traditions including canoe polo and mussel farming.
Episode 1
Broadcaster, entrepreneur and keen sailor Bobby Kerr is on a journey to explore the heritage, culture and enterprise of Ireland’s coastline and inland waterways. His journey starts at Sandycove, where he meets local characters who swim Forty Foot every day. Heading on to the Grand Canal Dock, he goes paddle boarding with local business owner Colin Harris and dragon boat racing with the Plurabelle Paddlers. He then takes in the beautiful sights of Dublin bay on board Dublin bay cruises and gets an exclusive invite to hidden gem Lambay Island.
Episode 2
Starting off at Strangford Lough, Bobby meets a business called Winterfell tours who are experiencing the Game of Thrones effect. Early morning on Lough Neagh he meets local fisherman Martin Devlin and finds out about the famous Lough Neagh eel. Proceeding along the River Bann to Rathlin Island, we meet local islander Liam Mc Faul as he visits Rathlin’s impressive seabird colony. The episode closes with a local seafarer kayaking the causeway coast.
Episode 3
Opens as we travel North West to Donegal and Fermanagh. In Donegal Bobby goes on a scenic hill walk with adventurer Iain Miller and visits the Glencolmcille folk village museum. At Finn Lough resort on the shores of Lough Erne he is immersed in nature when he stays overnight in a bubble dome that has 180° transparent walls. Renowned French chef and angler Pascal Brissaud shows us pike fishing and Master Butcher, Pat O’ Doherty introduces his wild pigs who inhabit their very own island on the lough.
Episode 4
We are travelling on the west coast of Ireland and at Enniscrone in Sligo, we are introduced to David Mc Gowan, the man responsible for bringing a boeing 747 to the seaside town. We then move on from Carrick on Shannon to Lough Key and find out about interesting businesses and initiatives along the way. We meet Mayo’s very own surfing Elvis when travelling to Louisburg beach and go fishing on the scenic Lough Mask.
Episode 5
Travelling South West to Munster, Bobby meets a family seaweed business in Quilty Co.Clare on the Atlantic coast. He then travel on to the beautiful coastal town of Kilkee and goes swimming in the Pollock holes. Killaloe River Cruises are a great way to experience the waterways of the River Shannon and in Limerick city, we meet a local boat building school and Bobby gets to row in Limerick’s traditional Gandelow boat for the first time. Finally in Askeaton, we meet up with a local character to find out about the town’s maritime history.
Episode 6
Travelling South West now to Kerry and West Cork we are introduced to a currach builder in the Maharees in Kerry called Monty O’Leary who talks us through his traditional craft and rows in a currach. In the scenic Kenmare bay we get to see mussel farming and on Valentia Island we go into the Valentia coast guard coordination centre. In Skibbereen, we meet the people behind the rowing club of the Olympic rowers the O’Donovan brothers.
Episode 7
Now travelling South East, Bobby starts his journey in the scenic coastal town of Youghal in County Cork where he cruises the beautiful River Blackwater. At Lismore Castle, it is possible to fish for salmon on the River Blackwater. A family oyster business on the scenic Ring Peninsula at Dungarvan in Co. Waterford is our next stop followed by an exploration of the waterways of the picturesque River Barrow in a beautiful barge.
Episode 8
In the final episode Bobby continues his journey on the East coast of Ireland. In Wexford, he meets the RNLI and visits a seal sanctuary. In Wicklow we get to see the Wicklow Head lighthouse. We then follow canoe polo on the Royal Canal before finishing our journey lobster fishing in Dun Laoghaire.
